The California ISO Department of Market Monitoring posted its Second Quarter Market Issues and Performance Report.
The report provides highlights of significant market changes and performance in the second quarter of 2022. Natural gas prices rose across the California ISO and Western Energy Imbalance Market (WEIM), raising electricity prices. Real-time imbalance offset costs, paid by measured demand in the California ISO, rose to $131 million and losses to transmission ratepayers for auctioned congestion revenue rights rose to $70 million.
Bonneville Power Administration and Tucson Electric Power joined the Western Energy Imbalance Market in May, bringing the total number of participants up to 18. Congestion from the Northwest decreased with the addition of transfer capacity. The report includes hourly price and transfer figures for each WEIM area in an appendix.
A public call covering both the first and second quarter reports will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2022. Interested parties may contact the department directly with any questions or concerns using the contact information listed below.
