Department of Market Monitoring Q3 2021 Market Issues and Performance Report, Call 12/14/21

MESSAGE

The California ISO Department of Market Monitoring posted its Third Quarter Market Issues and Performance Report. A stakeholder web conference is scheduled on Dec. 14, 2021 to discuss the analysis and findings of the report.

 

The third quarter 2021 Market Issues and Performance Report includes coverage of market performance in both the day-ahead and real-time Western Energy Imbalance Market (EIM). Market prices increased, relative to the same quarter of the prior year, but remained competitive. Factors contributing to higher electricity costs included higher gas prices, lower hydro-electric production in California, and higher outage rates. The report also includes coverage of the Western EIM, EIM resource sufficiency evaluations, higher volumes of energy wheeled across the California ISO, market changes, and resource adequacy performance.
