The California ISO would like to invite stakeholders and interested parties to attend the Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM) Forum on Oct. 13, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., a free virtual event aimed at fostering a regional discussion driven by the transformational changes and opportunities developing in the west. Notably the forum will discuss how the value of optimization and coordination of grid resources can be unlocked by expanding the ISO day-ahead market to entities within the Western interconnection.
This forum will include discussion with industry leaders, including utility representatives, policymakers, and stakeholders across the west who will share their perspectives on key concepts and principles critical to the development of an EDAM framework.
The ISO launched the Western Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) in 2014 to harness the benefits of coordinated and efficient energy trading across the western states. Today, 15 entities across the Western interconnection actively participate in the Western EIM, realizing over $1.4B in economic savings, operational efficiencies and greenhouse gas reduction benefits. By 2023, this number will grow to 22 active participants representing 84% of the load in the Western interconnection. An important next step is for the region to collaboratively explore the design of a regional day-ahead market that would optimize the functionality of the Western EIM, expanding on economic efficiencies, improving reliability and advancing western states’ energy goals.
